Early mornings on the other side

Well Grace and I were lying awake at 4 am eating Special K cereal bars and playing on my iphone.  Jetlag is a wicked thing for a child! Grace is trying to understand the customs of this Muslim country of prayer in the morning, noon and evening...over an intercom system throughout the town.  My mother and I went to a doctor here to have an x-ray of her neck and mouth.  Her arm is bothering her from a previous fall on her neck and she has a "toothache."  I only thought I was leaving the dental world behind for 5 weeks.  All x-rays look okay till we can get home.  Total cost $22!

Now the Dive Instructor is here to teach the "3 DAY" lessons.  Who knew what we were getting into.  Tonight we have a 5 hour theory lesson, tomorrow 6:30am we get in the water and more theory, 3rd day final theory and exam in the water.  Now off for a little pampering to get my girl a mani & pedi!

Made it to the other side

We are finally here on the other side of the world! The trip was really not too bad. The airline Emirates gave us a free voucher for a hotel on our 9 hour layover in Dubai. It was nice to shower and see a little of the city.
It's going to a busy, busy month! We have a 10 day excursion booked for the island of Manado, Bali and Phuket, Thailand. Tomorrow the dive instructor is coming to give us our lessons. Saturday we are attending a party for the cousin's wedding. Now mom and I are about to get a massage. Will post more soon!

The Itinerary

It's officially here.  We leave for Jakarta, Indonesia in less than 10 days! The "we" will be consisting of myself, Grace, my mom and sister.  We fly out of Jackson on Saturday, May 28th.  Our flight makes a stop in Houston then we get ready for the overseas flight to Dubai.  That flight only last 14 hours and 55 minutes but we will be able to freshen up in the airport since we have a 9 hour and 30 minute layover.  Our total travel time is about 48 hours!

But here is the positive.  I am going to see my grandmother for the 1st time since 1996. Not to mention all my aunts, uncles and cousins. Grace is going to meet her only living great-grandmother for the first time.  We will be attending the wedding of my cousin.  There are even plans to go scuba diving!  And Stephen and Ian will have some good quality father and son bonding time...for 5 weeks.

I am hoping to be able to share our journey with you daily...so stay tuned
